Description: Inspired by the mechanics of early flying machines, The Ornithopter perches on grass, casting flickering shadows to create the enjoyable shaded public space in Hong Kong. Once a visitor pedals on the bicycles’ wheels, the pair of double-stacked wings slowly flap up and down, interacting with the light and shadow in real-time. While flapping wings symbolise our pursuit of dreams, pedaling the bikes symbolises that we are persistently working out our dreams. The artwork creates a dialogue with the public who instantly transforms the surrounding environment. Rhythm of the flapping wings echoes with the speed of the city, and activates the public place.
